EXPRESS ENTRY
The Express Entry system is a widely preferred pathway for migrating to Canada from India.Launched in January 2015 by the Government of Canada, the Express Entry Program is an online platform designed to manage PR applications for economic category immigrants. The system uses a points-based approach, known as the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), to assess an applicant’s eligibility for immigration. Applicants are assessed using key factors such as age, work experience, educational qualifications, language skills, provincial nominations, and other adaptability elements.
Express Entry encompasses three primary economic immigration programs:
- Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP): For skilled workers with work experience in specific occupations.
- Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP): For skilled tradespeople with work experience in specific trades.
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC): For skilled workers who have gained Canadian work experience.
Each applicant’s profile is ranked in a competitive pool based on their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. A higher CRS score increases the likelihood of receiving an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residency.
Eligibility for Canadian Express Entry
To be eligible for Canadian Permanent Residency (PR) through the Express Entry system, you must meet the criteria of one of its economic immigration programs. A key requirement is achieving a minimum score of 67 points out of 100 based on specific factors.
- Age: Younger applicants generally receive higher scores.
- Education: Higher levels of education yield more points. A minimum of secondary education is required.
- Work Experience: Relevant work experience is rewarded, with more experience leading to higher scores.
- Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English or French, measured by tests like IELTS or TEF, is essential. Higher language scores result in more points.
- Adaptability: Factors such as having family in Canada or a job offer can boost your score.
IRCC conducts regular draws, inviting candidates with the highest CRS scores to apply for PR. The minimum CRS score required for each draw varies.
